Bassetlaw Liberal Democrats are proud to announce that Rev’d Simon Russell has been selected as the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election in Ranskill ward, taking place on Wednesday, 10th July 2025.
Rev’d Russell, a respected Baptist minister and former NHS hospital chaplain, brings a deep commitment to public service, local values, and practical community action. Known for his empathy, pragmatic leadership, and strong committee experience, Simon is standing to represent Ranskill with passion and dedication.
“I am honoured to introduce myself as your Liberal Democrat candidate. Having served our local NHS as a chaplain, I’ve supported individuals and families in some of their most difficult moments. I want to bring that same level of care and commitment to the Ranskill ward.”
A passionate motorcyclist, Simon is well aware of the day-to-day issues facing residents, including road safety, potholes, and infrastructure neglect. “I understand the frustrations people have with poorly maintained roads and unsafe travel routes. I’ll work hard to improve infrastructure and ensure safer streets for everyone.”
Simon also celebrates the rich heritage of Ranskill and Bassetlaw, noting the ward’s historic connection to the Mayflower Pilgrims. “The journey of the Mayflower began in Scrooby, right here in our ward. Ranskill has a proud identity, and I want to ensure that its future is just as inspiring as its past.”
Calling for a fairer deal for residents, Simon added: “If you want an independent listener and voice on the council, vote for me on 10th July. Let’s work together for a brighter future and a stronger, more responsive local government.”
